Coach Josh Tooley

Personal Training Coach Josh Tooley has been an integral part of Team JumpingFish from the beginning.

Coach Josh specializes in mobile fitness, boxing, MMA, travelling all around town to help clients meet their fitness goals in the environment that works best for them.

Josh Tooley provides training that’s “back to basics, with a twist.” The basics include a focus on core movement; the twist is how Josh provides each client with a custom-designed workout based on the client’s goals and abilities. Through their work with Josh, clients often find that they achieve fitness goals beyond what they imagine.

Josh uses creativity to ensure productivity; he specializes in designing “out-of-the-box” training. He says, “I can go to your average neighborhood park and instead of seeing the standard playground equipment and benches, I see a variety of different fitness stations with all sorts of possibilities.” Using everyday items and settings frees up Josh to be mobile, and to provide training wherever is most convenient for each client.

“I’ve worked in a gym setting, but so many of the standard fitness machines were designed before kinesiology was ever considered. I can provide a more effective and challenging workout using nothing but a shoe string and the client’s own body weight.”

Josh coaches people of all ages -- past clients have ranged from 8 years old to 83 years old, each with varying experience levels. Josh has coached professional fighters into their target weight and condition, and he’s trained runners for marathons. He’s helped several ladies fit into the wedding dress that they just HAD to have. He even coached one non-athletic client through recovery after a hip replacement… and after working with Josh, that client has unprecedented mobility and now excels in competitive swimming.

With such a varied client base, Josh considers his first responsibility to be safety. His thorough knowledge of anatomy and physiology enables Josh to help his clients meet their goals using the safest possible techniques. Josh considers it a related responsibility to provide each client with a true one-on-one training experience… the “personal” in “personal training.”

When Josh begins a new training relationship, he measures the clients’ body composition, dimensions, and range of motion. Josh constantly checks-in with clients during workouts, asking them for feedback as they progress through their customized routine. Periodically, Josh takes follow-up measurements, providing evidence of advancement toward the client’s goal, and enabling Josh to determine any necessary course corrections.

Josh’s career as a coach began informally within his own family. “My brother wanted to get into shape before he went to college. I coached him for four months based solely on my own fitness experience, and when he left for school, he pointed out that people make a living doing what I did for him.” That inspired Josh to begin his personal training certification program with teacher Chris Minks, who Josh credits as having “set the bar” for the training and customer service that Josh provides his own clients.

In his spare time, Josh trains and competes as a professional mixed martial arts fighter and boxer. Josh credits his fight coach, JD, with “pushing me past my limits, and convincing me that I can always give more and do more.” It’s the same motivation that Josh inspires in every one of his personal training clients.

"I credit Josh with being the instrument of my recovery from my hip. He is an awesome guy and I love him with all my heart." Jim Alabiso
